Before the doors opened, a girl came round to inform the fans that a "Publicity Stunt" would be taking place. This "Publicity Stunt" turned out to be a black hearse, in which lay a coffin with "Helena" spelt out in flowers on the lid. It was followed closely by several men in black suits and top-hats and women in dresses. The hearse went around once, bringing the whole of Soho Square to a standstill. That was funny.
Opening band Open Hand played a 25 minute set, which was actually quite good (they even dedicated their final song to Gerard, since it was his birthday), and then they walked offstage. As the lights went up so the stage hands could set up for My Chemical Romance, the whole crowd was silent. After fifteen more minutes of waiting, the "My Chemical Romance" banner, with the art piece Demolition Lovers on the it dropped. Everyone went nuts, however it was several more minutes of waiting before something happened. Bob walked up to his drum set, adjusting the seat, while we all cheered. I just about managed to not slap the girl standing behind me, even after her comments of "Oh, it's only Bob."
Bob looked up at the crowds, grinned a little, then turned and purposely did a comical little jog offstage.
The lights went dark again, and then the guys walked onstage to many cheers. Gerard yelled at the audience, asking them to "Wake-fucking-up, you guys, It's not that early." Then they started into "Give 'Em Hell, Kid."
The atmosphere was incredible, everyone was singing along, causing Gerard to comment. "This is the best fucking birthday ever."
If any of you haven't seen MCR live, go do it now! I even got a wink from Frankie and smiles from Gerard and Mikey.
